Work Experience

Current Position:  I am currently  Assistant Professor in Rural Sociology at the University of Missouri, Columbia. My appointment is split between teaching and research.  I also advise students in the Agriculture, Emphasis Sustainable Agriculture degree program at MU.

Previously:  From 1998-2012, I served as director of the Food Circles Networking Project and as associate director of the Community Food Systems and Sustainable Agriculture Program for University of Missouri Extension.  In 2008, I was promoted to Extension Associate Professor at University of Missouri.  From 1997-1998, I worked to develop extension programming around community food systems as a Post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Rural Sociology.  I also served as a Kellogg Food and Society Fellow from 2003-2005.  Prior to beginning my graduate career I worked in international programs for the National FFA Organization in Alexandria, Virginia (1989-1991).
